OUTREACH AND SERVICES

Poinsettia Project
The total amount that will be donated, from the Poinsettia Project, is $1,873.75. The donation is being sent, this week, to Hannah’s Treasure Chest, in Centerville. Hannah’s Treasure Chest is a non-profit organization which enriches the lives of children in need by providing care packages of shoes, clothes, safety equipment and hygiene items including diapers throughout southwest Ohio with networking partners. I am certain this organization will be thrilled to receive our donation!   Thank you to our members who supported the Poinsettia Project this season.  Lisa Connelly, Outreach Commissioner.

‘Soup’er Bowl Sunday
Good Shepherd’s annual SOUPER BOWL has begun. Souper Bowl is our opportunity to collect non-perishable food items for local food pantries in Kettering. What is your favorite part of the Super Bowl – the NFC team, the AFC team, or the commercials? After two rounds of playoffs, it has come down to the Lions and the 49ers for the NFC spot in the Super Bowl, and the Chiefs and the Ravens will battle it out for the AFC spot.
We have had two weeks of food donations and the results are as follows:
NFC 10 food items AFC 19 food items         Commercials 68 food items Total 97 food items
Please bring in items and place them in the marked bins in the narthex for your choice: “AFC”, “NFC”, or “Commercials.“  We will tally the items and let you know Good Shepherd’s choice.  Items will be collected each week until Super Bowl Sunday, February 11. Thanks for your help supplying the food pantries. Go, team!!

Food Pantry News
Your generous donations for the month of December totaled 525 items. The response to the Advent Calendar Giving List was very positive, and the donation bin was overflowing. It is always an amazing site to see all that food filling the donation bin.  Thanks for your continued faithfulness to this important ministry.  On December 4, food was delivered to four different feeding ministries (Feeding Friends, Neighbor-to-Neighbor, South Community, and Marshall Road Church of God) and helped support their efforts to provide food for families in these difficult economic times.  We are also providing some additional support to the “Little Food Pantry” project at Oakview Elementary School. In addition, we provided significant groceries for our two adopt-a-family families.  It would be very helpful to avoid donation of food in glass containers so that nothing can be broken.  Click here for a picture of the food pantry donations being shared with families at the Feeding Friends Pantry which is helping between 90-100 families every week.

Jeremiah’s Letter February 28
The mission of Jeremiah’s Letter is to bring congregations together from the greater Dayton community so that together they can enhance the daily lives of individuals and families of the inner-city who find themselves in need. To help support the works of Jeremiah’s Letter, Good Shepherd will be collecting bath and bedroom linens, personal hygiene products, canned foods and cleaning/laundry supplies.

Are you a member and want to serve at GSLC?
Well becoming a Commissioner is a great way to be involved in the day to day ministries at Good Shepherd. We are looking for several commissioners to take over on October 1, 2023. Specifically, we are looking for a Finance and Administration Commissioner, a Parish Life & Response Commissioner, and a Worship & Celebration Commissioner. If you have any questions about these positions feel free to talk with Pr Jamie, Roger Bauser, or the current commissioner serving in that position. This is a great way to get involved as GSLC continues to carry out its mission to the community and the world.

MISCELLANEOUS

Read the Bible in a Year
One of the best things we can do to strengthen our beliefs is to spend time in the Word. Oftentimes we don’t know where to start or how much to read. In your bulletins today, there is a “read the Bible in one year” plan. This can be used to keep you on track if you want to try it. If you don’t care for this plan, there are others available on the internet. If you’d like a larger print version of this one, please contact Don Bennett.

CHURCH PROGRAM DONATIONS

GSLC Lutheran Youth Corps (LYC)
Gift Card Program Did you know there is a way that you can financially support Good Shepherd at no cost to you?  Through the LYC, you can order gift cards from a variety of merchants and restaurants at face value and a portion of each purchase is donated to the church to support youth programs and the First Lutheran Breakfasts. Although the percentage donated to the church may seem small, a few percent of our collective purchases can add up to a significant donation to Good Shepherd over time. Order forms are available in the Narthex.  Orders placed on the weekend are normally available for pick up the following week, with the exception of some holiday periods and weeks where we do not reach the minimum threshold for placing an order.  Please contact Don Bennett if you have any questions.  What a great way to be faithful stewards of our resources!
