Offering
We are starting back passing the offering plate during the Sunday service. It may be a trial and error for the first month trying to figure out which way works best. We feel this is an important part of our service and we are excited to have it included back in the service.

OUTREACH AND SERVICES
Medicine Bottle Update
On September 27, Paula took 332 clean medicine bottles to Matthew 25 Ministries in Cincinnati. Please continue to save your prescription bottles. Remember to remove all glue (Goo Gone) and clean inside and out with HOT water. All pill residues must be gone. Place them in the tub in the narthex. Thank you for the extra work this takes. These bottles are used at medical missions all over the world.
Quilts & Kits – Ingathering
Good Shepherd is the InGathering location for Southwest/Central Ohio, parts of Northern Kentucky and Indiana. We are the drop-off point for hundreds of boxes filled with Quilts & Kits collected over the past year by churches, groups, and businesses. Our InGathering is a big event that utilizes many hands and good hard work. Volunteer to help, and join us Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 as we work together to fill a semi with gifts that will touch the lives of people around the world. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex.
Fall Craft Fair – November 5 at 9:00 am
Good Shepherd is proud to host our annual Fall Craft Fair! Our Fall and Spring Craft Fairs have become well-attended events in our community. This is a BIG event with all proceeds going toward local GSLC supported ministries. Our craft fair would not be successful without our dedicated volunteers and the many talented crafters who rent a space from us. Consider volunteering your time to help with this fun and amazing event. Your gift of time will not only help support our ministries, but will also afford you an opportunity to meet many wonderful people and be an ambassador for Good Shepherd. If you would like to know more about volunteering or how to be of service, please contact Rich Kellstrom. There is a Volunteer Sign-up Sheet in the Narthex.
Consider Joining!
Leadership positions need to be filled. We need 2 new Council Members and 3 Commissioners (Finance & Admin, Parish Life & Response & Worship & Celebration). If you would consider serving in one of these positions and have any questions feel free to contact Pr Jamie Vannoy, Roger Bauser, or Wayne Rosholt.
Homework Club
With school having started back up, we are getting ready to also start our Homework Club back up. This program is for 4th and 5th graders at Oakview School. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm we help them stay on task and finish their homework. We meet in the Chapel and generally have around ten students. If you would like to help the students with their homework or if you would like to provide healthy snacks for them once or twice a week, please contact Don Bennett.
Jeremiah’s Letter – October 16
The mission of Jeremiah’s Letter is to bring congregations together from the greater Dayton community so that together they can enhance the daily lives of individuals and families of the inner-city who find themselves in need. To help support the works of Jeremiah’s Letter, Good Shepherd will be collecting bath and bedroom linens, personal hygiene products, canned foods and cleaning/laundry supplies.
Food Pantry News
Your generous donations for the month of August totaled 150 items Thanks for your continued faithfulness to this important ministry. Food was delivered to two food pantries on September 6 and helps support their efforts to provide food for families in these difficult economic times. As one of the food pantry volunteers said: “THIS IS AWESOME. THANK YOU, ALL SO, MUCH. In the first three quarters of this fiscal year (since October 1, 2021) we have donated over 4050 food items. You can bring donations at any time, and the next FOOD PANTRY SUNDAY is October 2. The primary food pantry donation bin is in the narthex; so, if you come to church on Sunday morning you can bring your donations and place them there. During the week, you can still place your donations inside the fellowship hall doors. Monetary donations may still be made by placing a check (payable to Good Shepherd with “food pantry” in the memo line) in the offering or mailing it to the church office. The food pantry has told us that the following items are among the most needed and useful for donation: noodles and pastas, cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, kids’ canned pastas, boxed “helper” meals, canned meats, chicken and tuna, instant potatoes, canned soups (Campbell’s or brand name Chunky soups or Progresso soups – if on sale – are especially useful because they can be stretched by adding pasta and making a casserole meal).

Facilitator: Roger Bauser

Place: Comfort of your own home – connect and discuss with others online!
Climate change. Stewards of the earth. The care of our earth is a hot topic in many arenas. Cultivating the Christian practice of caring for creation involves a a dynamic process of both acting and reflecting. We have encountered practices of caring for creation in our lives. We may reduce, reuse, recycle. We may turn off lights when we leave a room. We may choose cloth napkins over paper ones. This DVD supported study will encourage us to reflect on the daily actions we take on behalf of creation. It is the intent of this study to inspire each of us to act as a witness to God’s love as we care for the world. The format is online to provide a convenient way to connect. The sessions are designed to allow folks to come to one or all of the conversations. Roger will share the access to the video content for those who are interested. If you experience any difficulty, please contact Roger at rebauser@me.com or call 937-299-5186.

MISCELLANEOUS
Stewardship Snippets – October 2
Luke 17:5-6– The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith! “The Lord replied, “If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” Jesus and Paul remind us that only through God do we have power, real riches and absolute joy. Like the apostles, we ask Jesus to increase our faith, and renew in us a right spirit.
Offerings for last week: $
The amount reported applies to contributions used towards the annual ministry plan which requires contributions of $5,243 every week.

CHURCH PROGRAM DONATIONS
AmazonSmile
It’s easy to do. Go to our website for Youth Donations, Good Shepherd Youth Donations, scroll down and you will see a little graphic labeled amazonsmile. Click on that and follow the directions. Once you’ve done that, instead of going to amazon.com to make an online purchase, go to smile.amazon.com and for every purchase you make, we will get 0.5% of that price donated to us. It’s still Amazon, with all the features of the normal site, we just get a small cut. Over time those 0.5% donations add up. Please consider supporting us in this way. The proceeds go to help with youth events. If you have any questions, please contact Don Bennett.
GSLC Lutheran Youth Corps (LYC)
Gift Card Program Did you know there is a way that you can financially support Good Shepherd at no cost to you? Through the LYC, you can order gift cards from a variety of merchants and restaurants at face value and a portion of each purchase is donated to the church to support youth programs and the First Lutheran Breakfasts. Although the percentage donated to the church may seem small, a few percent of our collective purchases can add up to a significant donation to Good Shepherd over time. Order forms are available in the Narthex. Orders placed on the weekend are normally available for pick up the following week, with the exception of some holiday periods and weeks where we do not reach the minimum threshold for placing an order. Please contact Don Bennett if you have any questions. What a great way to be faithful stewards of our resources! Click here to fill out the form: Gift Card Order Form
