4th Wednesday Monthly Prayer Service
Do you need some time away from the busyness of life? On the 4th Wednesday of the month come join us at GSLC for a prayer service. Enjoy some time together singing and praying, while also getting some time to spend with the Lord in prayer by yourself.  There will be “stations” to help you focus on open different parts of our life, if you need that, you can stay in your pew and pray, or you can just walk around the sanctuary if that is what helps you enter some prayerful space for the Lord. Come join us Wednesday, November 22 at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. All are welcome to join us!  There will be NO monthly prayer service in the month of December.

Advent Midweek Services
On December 6, December 13, and December 20 there will be Advent Midweek Services in the Sanctuary at 7:00 pm. We will be streaming all our Advent Midweek Services on YouTube & Facebook.

Blue Christmas
Things seem sad for you over the holidays. Whether it’s the death of someone you loved; someone battling a serious illness; loss of a job; or just feeling blue. Together, Harmony Creek & Good Shepherd, will be having a Blue Christmas service for anyone just not feeling excited and happy about Christmas this year. The service will be in the Fellowship Hall on Monday, December 18 at 8:00 pm. Come and see how Jesus is joining with us in the ups and the downs of the Christmas Season.

OUTREACH AND SERVICES

Bags Needed
Not sure what to do with plastic bags you get from the grocery store and other places. Feeding Friends Food Pantry (run by Harmony Creek and some other churches) are in need of those bags as they use them to prepare food to give to needy families in the Kettering area. You can bring them to church with you or drop them off in the Church office and we’d be glad to get them where they are needed.

Meal Train
Our friend Lanae Scott said goodbye to her sweet mom Winnie on 10/5. Anyone who knows Lanae, knows how much she loved her mom. The last thing she needs to worry about right now is what to eat so a Meal Train has been set up to provide small meals for Lanae & Roger Scott. They are so grateful for your support and love! Please go to the link for further details https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/zkkkyy

Jeremiah’s Letter November 19
The mission of Jeremiah’s Letter is to bring congregations together from the greater Dayton community so that together they can enhance the daily lives of individuals and families of the inner-city who find themselves in need. To help support the works of Jeremiah’s Letter, Good Shepherd will be collecting bath and bedroom linens, personal hygiene products, canned foods and cleaning/laundry supplies.

Toys For Tots Program
Troop 193 Assistant Scout Master Bob Grove is organizing a drop-off location in GSLC. Mr. Grove shared the following with the scouts this week: “Again, this year, we are taking donations for the Toys for Tots program. Any new, unopened toys are welcome. Traditionally, they get a lot of younger kid’s toys. Toys and clothes for older kids is always in need. Please help as you can. There is a drop off box in the Fellowship Hall where the Troop meets.  Our last collection date is November 28. There are drop off boxes located both in the narthex as well as the fellowship hall. The scouts would appreciate any contribution you may provide. Thanks so much!”  Lisa Connelly, Outreach Commissioner

Children and Youth Christmas Bazaar – Harmony Creek Church
Harmony Creek will be having a Children and Youth Christmas Bazaar on December 2 from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm with a visit from Santa in the Fellowship Hall.  Children ages 4 to 18 are invited to shop their collection of gifts for free.  Your child will be able to choose a gift for their family members.  Shopping lists and wrapping will be provided!  Small crafts will be available for children to do while they wait to shop too.

Food Pantry News
Next Food Pantry Sunday is December 3.
Your generous donations for the month of October totaled 195 items. It is always an amazing site to see all that food filling the donation bin.  Thanks for your continued faithfulness to this important ministry.  On November 6, food was delivered to four different feeding ministries (Feeding Friends, Neighbor-to-Neighbor, South Community, and Marshall Road Church of God) and helped support their efforts to provide food for families in these difficult economic times.  We are also providing some additional support to the “Little Food Pantry” project at Oakview Elementary School.  The food pantries have told us that the following items are among the most needed and useful for donation: noodles and pastas, cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, kids’ canned pastas, boxed “helper” meals, canned meats, chicken and tuna, instant potatoes, canned soups (Campbell’s or brand name Chunky soups or Progresso soups – if on sale – are especially useful because they can be stretched by adding pasta and making a casserole meal).  It would be very helpful to avoid food in glass containers so that nothing can be broken.

Adopt-a-Family for the Holidays
This year, our church will be adopting 2 families for the holidays. Family # 1 is a family of nine- dad, mom & their 7 children. Family #2 is a family of four- dad, mom, & their 2 daughters.  The tree is set up in the narthex and the gift tags have been placed.  Gift ideas/clothing sizes/etc. are written on the tags. 2 tags are attached together. Place one of the tags in the basket on the counter & keep the other tag as a shopping guide. Please wrap the gift & place that tag on the outside. There are plenty of gift tags, so feel free to take several if you want!  All gifts must be returned to church by December 17 at the very latest. Please contact Lisa Connelly or Sandy Rosholt if you have any questions. Thank you for helping brighten the holidays for these two families!”

Annual Poinsettia Project
To raise money for Hannah’s Treasure Chest we are asking for donations to the Poinsettia Project. Donations can be made “in honor of” or “in memory of” in ANY amount. Order forms are available in the Narthex. If you would like to take a Poinsettia home, there will be a place on the form to check, and we will make sure enough poinsettias are purchased.  All donations in honor or memory of a loved one will be acknowledged by a card on the poinsettia Tree in the Narthex and listed in an insert in the Christmas Eve bulletins. You can use an envelope from the pew and make checks to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and indicate Poinsettia Project.  Hannah’s Treasure Chest is in Centerville and provides clothing, diapers, and supplies for infants & children in the local area.   All forms need to be submitted to the office by Sunday, December 17.   Click here for the order form.

Are you a member and want to serve at GSLC?
Well becoming a Commissioner is a great way to be involved in the day to day ministries at Good Shepherd. We are looking for several commissioners to take over on October 1, 2023. Specifically, we are looking for a Finance and Administration Commissioner, a Parish Life & Response Commissioner, and a Worship & Celebration Commissioner. If you have any questions about these positions feel free to talk with Pr Jamie, Roger Bauser, or the current commissioner serving in that position. This is a great way to get involved as GSLC continues to carry out its mission to the community and the world.

CHURCH PROGRAM DONATIONS

GSLC Lutheran Youth Corps (LYC)
Gift Card Program Did you know there is a way that you can financially support Good Shepherd at no cost to you?  Through the LYC, you can order gift cards from a variety of merchants and restaurants at face value and a portion of each purchase is donated to the church to support youth programs and the First Lutheran Breakfasts. Although the percentage donated to the church may seem small, a few percent of our collective purchases can add up to a significant donation to Good Shepherd over time. Order forms are available in the Narthex.  Orders placed on the weekend are normally available for pick up the following week, with the exception of some holiday periods and weeks where we do not reach the minimum threshold for placing an order.  Please contact Don Bennett if you have any questions.  What a great way to be faithful stewards of our resources!
