Face masks are needed only for those who choose to wear them and those who have not been vaccinated.
Parking Lot Communion
Holy Communion will be held in the parking lot of Good Shepherd from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm on the 2nd Sunday of July (July 11).
GSLC has already begun having Holy Communion around the communion rail again. Spaces will be marked around the communion rail for individuals or families to commune. Anyone distributing communion will be fully vaccinated. The Pastor and Assisting Minister will be wearing masks to distribute the hosts as well. If someone is not comfortable coming forward to the communion rail they can still commune in their pew with the prepackaged communion we have been using throughout the pandemic.

On Sunday, July 25 is our annual picnic! This year we will gather at Delco Park at 10:30 am (located at 1700 Delco Park Dr., in Kettering). After the service we will share in a carry in picnic.
Ginny and I are working on flowers for the Altar. We will be starting with those who donated last year. As we weren’t able to do Altar flowers due to covid. If you would like to donate please contact Ginny Herbeck at 937-298-8876 or Michele Weyhrauch at 937-510-4264. There will also be a new flower chart put up in the Narthex. Thank You! Michele Weyhrauch, Worship Commissioner
OUTREACH AND SERVICES
First Lutheran Breakfast Update
When the weather gets cooler, the First Lutheran Breakfast will return to providing pre-pandemic hot meal indoor meal. (The anticipated change will be sometime in September or October). In order to continue serving meals twice a month (the first & third Sundays), we will need more people to volunteer. We need a minimum of 5 people, on each Sunday, to prepare and serve the meals. Would you please consider helping with this important mission, which serves approximately 100 guests each time? Please contact Lisa Connelly for further information or to volunteer. Thanks so very much! Sincerely, Lisa Connelly 937-361-9127 – firstname.lastname@example.org
Medicine Bottle Update
Paula took 410 prescription bottles and 35 non-prescription bottles to Matthew 25 Ministries on 6/30. These bottles will be used on mission trips to supply people with desperately needed medicine. Please continue to save your bottles and place them in the marked tub in the narthex, remembering the guidelines:
- Remove all labels and all glue (“Goo Gone” -found at automotive stores- works great for this.)
- Wash in hot water and dry, being sure to clean the inside as well.
- Replace bottle caps.
*Thank you for your partnership in this important ministry.
Food Pantry News
Thanks for your on-going support for many needy families in our area who are serviced by the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry. The food pantry donation bin has been moved back to the narthex; so if you are coming to church on Sunday morning you can bring your donations and place them there. During the week, if you are going by church, you can still place your donations inside the fellowship hall doors as we have been doing. Monetary donations may still be made by placing a check in the offering or mailing it to the church office payable to Good Shepherd with “food pantry” in the memo line. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who donated food during the month of May. We were able to donate 426 food items – one of our best months in a long time. The food pantry has told us that the following items are among the most needed and useful for donation: noodles and pastas, cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, kids’ canned pastas, boxed “helper” meals, canned meats, chicken and tuna, instant potatoes, canned soups (Campbell’s Chunky soups or Progresso soups – if on sale – are especially useful because they can be stretched by adding pasta and making a casserole meal).
Amazing Grace Daycamp July 19-23, 2021
Summer is just around the corner. Soon it will be time for Amazing Grace Daycamp. Circle July 19-23 on your calendars! Those are the important dates to remember. We will have a team from Lutheran Memorial Camp to lead the programming. We will need lots of volunteers to help with the campers, serve meals, provide support, and house the LMC staff. Hold this important outreach ministry in your prayers.
Helpers needed – We need some more helpers for our upcoming Amazing Grace Day Camp this July and you needn’t work directly with the campers. We will need helpers to sanitize things after the campers leave for the day. We will need helpers to assist with screening campers when they arrive. We will need helpers to call campers parents when the campers are absent to check if they are ill. And we will need helpers to assist in preparing meals and snacks for the campers. If you can help in any of these ways or perhaps others, please contact Don Bennett at 937-475-9445.

It is with great sadness that Good Shepherd is losing Jim Copeland as a Bookkeeper to help his daughter through a difficult time. Jim and I have worked closely and very well together over the last 5-ish years and I’ve enjoyed every minute. I’d like to thank Jim for all his hard work and enthusiasm he brought with him as our Bookkeeper. The great contributions he has made to GSLC are many and significant. We are sad to see him “retire” and he will be missed.
It is with great joy to report that the Executive Committee has hired a new Bookkeeper, Ronda Stanoikovich, to replace Jim Copeland. We are very excited about bringing her on! Her work experience, where she is right now, and her future goals are a natural fit for GSLC. I truly believe she was the best candidate of the 140+ that viewed the Indeed job posting, the 18+ that expressed interest, and the 3 candidates that we extended invitations for an interview. Indeed.com was a wonderful hiring tool.
I would like to thank the Executive Committee for their support through this difficult process and particularly to Jim Copeland & Jeff Wehmeyer for their hard work. Please welcome Ronda when you meet her and we look forward to working with her for many years to come!
Offerings for last week: $3,552.38
The amount reported applies to contributions used towards the annual ministry plan which requires contributions of $5,243 every week.
Don’t forget to send in your weekly tithe/offering to the church at 901 East Stroop Rd, Kettering, OH 45429 or go to our online Electronic Giving:

CHURCH PROGRAM DONATIONS
It’s easy to do. Go to our website for Youth Donations, Good Shepherd Youth Donations, scroll down and you will see a little graphic labeled amazonsmile. Click on that and follow the directions. Once you’ve done that, instead of going to amazon.com to make an online purchase, go to smile.amazon.com and for every purchase you make, we will get 0.5% of that price donated to us. It’s still Amazon, with all the features of the normal site, we just get a small cut. Over time those 0.5% donations add up. Please consider supporting us in this way. The proceeds go to help with youth events. If you have any questions, please contact Don Bennett.
GSLC Lutheran Youth Corps (LYC)
Gift Card Program Did you know there is a way that you can financially support Good Shepherd at no cost to you? Through the LYC, you can order gift cards from a variety of merchants and restaurants at face value and a portion of each purchase is donated to the church to support youth programs and the First Lutheran Breakfasts. Although the percentage donated to the church may seem small, a few percent of our collective purchases can add up to a significant donation to Good Shepherd over time. Order forms are available in the Narthex. Orders placed on the weekend are normally available for pick up the following week, with the exception of some holiday periods and weeks where we do not reach the minimum threshold for placing an order. Please contact Don Bennett if you have any questions. What a great way to be faithful stewards of our resources!
